My Role
Ideating
Goal Statement
Flightpath allows healthcare users to follow cargo in real time from packaging to delivery, which will aid hospital administrators and surgical staff by providing time sensitive updates and allowing more efficient coordination with their teams.
Research
Primary research was conducted through a survey of 11 respondents and one interview participant to determine how comfortable people were with the idea of drone delivery and how their experiences have been with delivery tracking apps in general. All participants were familiar with delivery tracking and all had used delivery tracking in the past. Only two people replied “not at all” when asked how comfortable they would feel having products delivered by drone to their home or place of business.
Key Competitors
Direct Competitor
Matternet
Matternet is a medium sized company who has established themselves as a leader in the drone delivery industry and operates in several countries with an impressive medical delivery network for Swiss hospitals.
Indirect Competitor
Flytrex
Flytrex is a small company who is outpacing some of the larger business models like Amazon to quickly come industry known in drone delivery. They are FAA approved part 135 operators meaning they are a certificate holder who does not have pre-set limits on the available size or scope of their operations.
Direct Competitor
Zipline
Zipline is a medium sized competitor with an impressive track record in a short amount of time. They have completed over 200,000 commercial deliveries with typical same day delivery for clients in the medial industry. They have proofed ground breaking work in Africa since the Covid pandemic with success of vaccine delivery in traditionally hard to reach places
User Journey
By creating a user journey I was able to dissect the overall process and break it down into several individual tasks. This allowed me to better understand how the product would allow users to maximize efficiency and control over the collective procedure.
Problem
Smaller hospitals don't have the resources to offer life saving organ transplants due to the high costs of traditional delivery methods.
A Solution
The FlightPath Medical Delivery
app will let users track their cargo and create an even more efficient procedure, with advanced safety controls so that the focus remains on patient care and success.
Ideate
Using a timed exercise meant to rapidly generate various layout designs I came up with initial ideas for several pages which would make up a functional user flow such as an on call list, a patient directory and homepage.
User Flow
My user flow included two main branches. One being navigation, with the ability of continuous editing to a patient profile, and a second for current shipments with cargo tracking functionality.
Wireframing
With the understanding of that user flow and my original sketches in mind my goal was to create lo-fidelity digital frames which would represent a procedural healthcare portal and cargo tracking functionality that would work seamlessly together.
Lo-Fidelity Prototype
With a series of relevant wireframes I could incorporate the previously created user flow and begin to bring the two into a more functioning UI system. The centralized idea of a homepage for staff would serve as starting point for several user flows into daily patient monitoring, team communication and focused cargo tracking. This gave each staff member a way to perform their role with each patient as well as coordinate with their team and provide efficient patient care
Synthesizing Data
Taking the user flows created during my lo-fidelity prototype design I performed a usability study consisting of 5 participants who work in the medical industry. From their responses I created an affinity diagram in order to better understand common insights and pain points.
Mockups: Before & After
A usability study of my basic prototype and product architecture provided valuable user feedback including a common insight that a status button and page would provide a quick breakdown for hospital staff of the patient's latest vital readings.
Mockup Examples
Through a usability study, valuable feedback was gathered that informed the next phase of my design process. This mockup uses modern design principles to ensure a great user experience, including a simple and intuitive navigation, clear call-to-actions, and a mobile-friendly design. With this mockup healthcare staff will be able to better engage with the procedure and more efficiently serve their patients.
